Time is a finite resource. We all get 24 hours per day. But do you think about the other finite resource that influences how effective your time can be?
Each of us has an internal battery, the amount of energy that you have to be productive before needing to shut down (via deep restorative sleep). If your battery is emptied before your productive time has ended, you end up with diminishing returns on your time.
Just like a phone battery, ours drains at differing rates depending on the task type and intensity. For us, it takes very little battery to have an engaging debate, but when we have to work through our financial bookkeeping, we drain quickly.
Being aware of what creates a significant drain on your battery can be key to finding the best use of your time.
Try this task for a day. Each time you switch tasks during the day pause and make a note. Either "draining", "neutral", or "rejuvenating" based on your immediate impression following that particular type of task. At the end of the day, reflect on your notes. Do you have opportunities where a number of "draining" tasks happened in a row? Perhaps you could mix in something "rejuvenating" to break it up in the future. How do you finish your work day? On a string of "draining" tasks or doing something "rejuvenating" so that you move into personal time on a high?
Awareness breeds intention. Setting your intention is the key to being able to effectively Adjust.
